DragonCon and Captain America

Today, I attended DragonCon in Atlanta, GA. This was my first foray to a convention, and it was amazing! Since I have a small budget for fun things, my outfit wasn’t terribly complicated or as elaborate as a costumer like me would like, but I made it work!

I went in true Disney Bound fashion as Captain America. For those of you who don’t know, Disney Bound in where you dress up as characters without blatantly being in costume- it’s more of an “inspired by” than “I am so-and-so,” which makes it so much fun! (i.e., wearing yellow shorts and a red shirt to be Winnie the Pooh)

I am a huge Cap fan, so I went with dressing to rep my man. I picked up a blue dress from Forever 21 for my base, then added a red cardigan, white belt, red off-brand Toms, a blue and white purse and scarf- all Faded Glory from WalMart- to bring out the character. Adding a white flower, earrings from Nerdy Robots on etsy, and carrying my shield completed the look.

This is one of my favorite ways to dress up, as I’m still in costume but for significantly less money. A little bit of a challenge for a costumer, making sure the look has the correct elements and making sure you don’t go too overboard with the look (in a movie situation, the shield would clearly not be carried). It was a lot of fun to assemble this look, and a plus side is all the pieces are reusable in daily life!
