“Holden On”

It has been quite a while- my apologizes, I was invited to work on a film and, of course, had to say yes! A month put into pre- and production, and it was worth it every day.

The movie is titled “Holden On.” It’s based on the true story of Holden Layfield and how his life is changed while dealing with schizophrenia and drug dependency. The film was well done and should turn out to be a beautiful work.

I worked in Wardrobe(obviously) as the Wardrobe Assistant/ (unofficial) Set Costumer. While there were a few bumps here and there, overall it was a wonderful experience. I also met a few locals, so hopefully more work will come my way? **fingerscrossed**

Anyway! Here are some pics from the set! (Possibly more to come later.)

Music Video Shoot

cabin, casual, costume, costume design, costuming, design, film, music video, narrative film, overnight shoot, production life, set dressing, set life, student project, wardrobe

This past weekend, I was asked to do Wardrobe/Set Decoration for a music video shooting in northern Georgia. It wasn’t a paying gig, but there was reimbursement and the opportunity to work with some people I’ve worked with before (a few of the cast and crew from “Pool Party”- great people). I purchased a lot of the props, such as art supplies, a stool, kitchen tools and dining ware, sand, and food items for the shoot. I also acquired a black skin suit for one of the actors- luckily, we were shooting before Halloween 🙂

The set was at a cabin in north Georgia, fairly remote and difficult to get to (narrow roads are not my friends!), but a perfect setting for the video. The cast and crew worked well together, everyone got along, and the finished product is on the way. From what the dailies looked like, the completed project will be stunning. Below are some pictures I took of the set decorating process, mostly for continuity purposes, and my eye making process for the skin suit.

“The Last Rescue” trailer

Hey all! The trailer for the World War II movie I worked on last year is online. I was the Costume Supervisor/Set Costumer. It was one of the best cast and crew collaborations I could have been selected to work on. I’m desperate to get back out there!

DragonCon and Captain America

Today, I attended DragonCon in Atlanta, GA. This was my first foray to a convention, and it was amazing! Since I have a small budget for fun things, my outfit wasn’t terribly complicated or as elaborate as a costumer like me would like, but I made it work!

I went in true Disney Bound fashion as Captain America. For those of you who don’t know, Disney Bound in where you dress up as characters without blatantly being in costume- it’s more of an “inspired by” than “I am so-and-so,” which makes it so much fun! (i.e., wearing yellow shorts and a red shirt to be Winnie the Pooh)

I am a huge Cap fan, so I went with dressing to rep my man. I picked up a blue dress from Forever 21 for my base, then added a red cardigan, white belt, red off-brand Toms, a blue and white purse and scarf- all Faded Glory from WalMart- to bring out the character. Adding a white flower, earrings from Nerdy Robots on etsy, and carrying my shield completed the look.

This is one of my favorite ways to dress up, as I’m still in costume but for significantly less money. A little bit of a challenge for a costumer, making sure the look has the correct elements and making sure you don’t go too overboard with the look (in a movie situation, the shield would clearly not be carried). It was a lot of fun to assemble this look, and a plus side is all the pieces are reusable in daily life!

Nymph Costume

costume, costume design, costuming, design, film, halloween, nymph, set life, wardrobe

This is a nymph costume I made from a dress from Wal*Mart and some ribbon additions. It was created for a Halloween scene I was recently invited to work on. Considering it was only August, my options for costumes were relatively limited, but inspiration struck, and so I had to improvise. The top shows the dress as I bought it, very simple and one color. I purchased the flower wreath for my hair, and borrowed the jewelry from my roommate. I bought the tights and some ribbons at the last minute, looking to add a little flair to the outfit. The ribbons were pink, green, and yellow, to highlight portions of the wreath and break up the bright pink solidity of the dress itself. I think it has a bit of charm now 🙂
